Volunteerism has been the cornerstone of Dans la rue since its inception in 1988. Father Emmet Johns, better known as "Pops", founded the organization along with a handful of volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of homeless youth. Almost 25 years later the organization has grown to include a wide range of services for marginalized youth, none of which would be possible without the generous gift of the time and energy of our volunteers.

Volunteers enhance nearly all the programs offered in our organization. From the depot, to the kitchen, to our onsite school and art room, all the way to our dentist and veterinary clinics, volunteers help us make the difference.
